Are you interested in becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer?
Training and certification for new Master Gardener Volunteers is now offered online by UW-Extension through Zoom and the university’s Canvas platform, giving candidates the flexibility to complete the course on their own schedules and from any location.
The core course, Foundations in Horticulture, teaches research-based methods to grow plants and manage pests. Candidates move at their own pace through 12+ modules with online videos, readings, activities and scheduled live webinars, as well as optional labs. UW-Extension experts present videos and Q&A sessions to teach decision making strategies and gardening resources.
Registration for the current Foundations in Horticulture class closed on August 13, 2021. The class runs from September 12 with a completion deadline of December 11, 2021.

After completion of the Foundations in Horticulture course, candidates must take a second course called “Master Gardener Volunteer Onboarding” before becoming certified as a Master Gardener Volunteer. At present, this certification is not offered in Door County, but may be available in 2022.
Once certified, Master Gardener Volunteers are welcome to join Door County Master Gardeners Association (DCMGA) to fulfill educational and volunteer hours commitments, as well as contribute to the vibrant gardening community in Door County.
