The Door County Plein Air Festival is an invitational event — our invitations committee selects between 30 to 36 painters from across the United States to participate each year. We look for a wide variety of artists whose styles represent the breadth and scope of contemporary plein air painting.

Plein Air Painting Event 2025: A Celebration of Nature and Art
The annual Plein Air Painting Event, held from June 15 to June 20, 2023, in the picturesque town of Lakeview, attracted artists and art enthusiasts from across the country. This year’s theme, "Nature's Palette," encouraged participants to capture the vibrant landscapes and serene waters of Lakeview.
Event Highlights
Workshops and Masterclasses: Renowned artist Clara Thompson led a series of workshops on techniques for capturing light and shadow in outdoor settings.
Art Exhibition: An exhibition of selected works was held at the Lakeview Community Center, showcasing over 100 pieces created during the event.
People's Choice Award: Attendees voted for their favorite artwork, with the winner receiving a $500 cash prize and a feature in the local art magazine.
