About the event

Join Master Gardener Sue Kunz for a “guided” tour through The Garden Door on a wintery day. Discover the beauty of a garden in winter, it’s quiet and understated, the garden becomes a study in form, light and stillness.

Subtle details take center stage: the rich texture of bark, the glint of ice on seed heads, the muted tones of dried grasses, and the gentle curve of a fallen leaf. Winter light, low and angled, casts long shadows and highlights contours that go unnoticed in summer. Even silence feels like part of the design.

Bare branches trace elegant lines against the sky, their silhouettes refined and expressive. Frost and snow soften edges, unifying the landscape and turning ordinary plants, stones, and paths into sculptural forms. Evergreen shrubs hold their color, offering reassurance and continuity amid dormancy.
